Hybrid Electro-Optic Polymer/TiO2 Multilayer Slot Waveguide Modulators for Lower Half Wave Voltage and Electrode Length Product

Abstract

We demonstrate a hybrid electro-optic (EO)/TiO2 multilayer slot waveguide modulator. Half wave voltage is reduced after we successfully increase a poling efficiency and a mode overlap integral. The polymeric modulators would be applied for optical communications and interconnections. Half wave voltage (Vπ) is 2.0 V for electrode length (Le) of 1 cm (VπLe = 2.0 V·cm) at a wavelength of 1550 nm, using low-index guest-host EO polymer SEO125 (in-device r33 = 78 pm/V).
