Four-fold increase of the mode instability threshold with a multi-core photonic crystal fiber

Abstract

We present a four-core Yb-doped fiber that exhibits a mode instability threshold of 536W, which is about four times the threshold of a single core. This fiber design shows a route to circumvent mode instabilities.
