Tunable low-threshold lasing in photonic-crystal heterostructure

Abstract

A photonic crystal cavity, consisting of a three-dimensional photonic crystal with a gain medium sandwiched between passive multilayers, is modeled which provides a drastic reduction in lasing threshold gain and improved tuning of the laser.
