Novel Optical Signature for Sickle Cell Trait Red Blood Cells

Abstract

We identified unique optical signatures for sickle cell trait, a condition where heterozygous individuals are carriers for the hemoglobin allele that causes sickle cell anemia, by using wide-field interferometric microscopy.
