A Cold-Atom Superradiant Laser with <1 Intracavity Photon

Abstract

We demonstrate a laser that operates with <1 intracavity photon, such that the laser-cooled gain medium act as the primary flywheel for the oscillator’s phase. Prospects for ultranarrow and novel passive/active oscillators are also considered.
