Ultrasmall Optical Gyroscopes Based on Microdisk Lasers

Abstract

We studied numerically the effects of rotation on wavelength-scale microdisk cavities. Rotation-induced changes in quality factor and far-field pattern are much larger than Sagnac frequency splitting, providing multiple methods for rotation sensing with ultrasmall gyroscopes.
