Thermo-optic Characteristics and Switching Power Limit of Slow-light Silicon-on-insulator Photonic Crystal Structures

Abstract

We study the influence of key structural/optical parameters on silicon-on-insulator photonic crystal thermo-optic switching structures. Our semi-analytic theory agrees well with finite-element simulations and experiments. Switching with sub-milliwatt power is shown viable.
