Ultra-compact CMOS-Compatible Silicon Modulators

Abstract

Modulators for optical communications should offer highest speed, lowest power consumption, ultra-compact size and CMOS-compatibility. We review the potential three recent promising concepts such as the all-silicon, the silicon-organic hybrid and the plasmonic modulator approach.
