Optofluidic Manipulation of Particles for Separation, Purification, and Analysis

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

An optofluidic system and applications are described where biological samples are characterized and separated in a microfluidic device based upon their intrinsic properties. As an example, optical force differences have been measured between various human blood cells including lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, and erythrocytes indicating the potential to harness optical force differences to separate blood cells.
