Spontaneous emission near hyperbolic metamaterials

Abstract

We present a hyperbolic metamaterial substrate for radiative decay engineering. The spontaneous emission lifetime of molecules is reduced due to near-field interaction with the metamaterial. This opens the route for metamaterial-based fluorescence sensing and detection.
