Abstract

Network operators desire ubiquitous optical connections that will traverse their 50GHz wavelength agile networks, without the need for any optical compensation [1]. Coherent detection provides several thousand kilometers of reach at 40Gb/s, and allows linear digital filters in the receiver to combat dispersion, PDL and PMD [2][3].
