Slow light for switching and nonlinear effects in SOI

Abstract

The phenomenon of slow light in photonic crystal waveguides is used for miniaturised (5μm long) optical switches as well as the broadband (5–10 nm) enhancement of nonlinear effects such as self-phase modulation.
