Abstract

We propose a tunable optical clock pulse generation method from a sinusoidally phase-modulated (PM) light using an SBS-assisted optical filtering technique. The generator is constructed with a conventional phase-modulator followed by a self-tuned narrowband optical filter utilizing the pump-depletion in SBS process in optical fiber loop. With this method, tunable 20-GHz pulses are successfully generated from a 10-GHz PM signal by merely filtering out the first-sideband components in the PM light.
