Ultra-compact On-Chip Photonic Crystal Interferometers with High Sensitivity

Abstract

High group index property of photonic crystals (PCs) is used to enhance the spectral sensitivity of on-chip optical interferometry. A planar PC is used in a Young interferometer architecture demonstrating one order of magnitude sensitivity improvement compared to conventional interferometers.
