Brownian Motion in Radiation-Pressure-Driven Micromechanical Oscillators

Abstract

We demonstrate for the first time a Brownian noise limited opto-mechanical oscillator where mechanical oscillations of a silica optical micro-cavity are sustained by means of radiation-pressure. Prospects for observation of quantum back-action effects are also investigated.
