Abstract

In this paper, we theoretically investigated the possibility to realise an optical switch devices in silicon based 2D-PhCs using liquid crystals as active materials. We consider light propagation in T-shaped of PC-waveguide formed by a silicon square rods lattice with linear defects, and an infiltration of LCs into air regions. We prove that a range of frequency can propagate in either left or right waveguide of T junction or in only one of them by applying a n external electric field reorienting the liquid crystal
