Abstract

We have exposed phosphate glass that is co-doped with Er and Yb to high-intensity ultrafast laser pulses. We have demonstrated a reduced index in the exposed areas relative to the non-exposed areas. This effect has been used to write a unique geometry of waveguide by exposing an annular area.
