Backscattered Polarization Patterns as a Manifestation of Phase Vortices

Abstract

Fourfold symmetric polarization patterns were observed in many cases involving backscattering from random medium. We will demonstrate that these patterns can be interpreted in terms of phase vortices introduced in the backscattering process.
