Radiometric Levitation of Microscopic Particles in a Laser Beam

Abstract

We observe the levitation of non-transparent particles such as tungsten in a laser beam surrounded by a gas. We document the motion of trapped particles and observe the trapping phenomenon under conditions of free fall.
