Abstract
Metal surfaces like aluminum and gold turn black in color upon high fluence femto-second laser ablation. The blackening of surface is due to surface roughness and formation of unique micro- and nano- sized surface structures. The surface has a very low reflectance in the UV-VIS and IR spectrum.
