Abstract

Field and intensity correlations of electromagnetic waves propagating through random media in multi-channel waveguides have been studied extensively. The experimental results obtained in microwave waveguides are in good agreement with the predictions of analytical theory when absorption effect is taken into account [1]. This system provides a good framework for the study of localization phenomena. However the effect of coherent amplification on light localization has not yet been well understood. We studied the effect of optical gain on field and intensity correlations of electromagnetic waves propagating through active random media in 2-D multi-channel waveguides.
