Abstract

We demonstrate the operation of compact cladding pumped fiber lasers using highly Er-Yb-codoped phosphate glass as active material. We observe more than 1.2 W continuous wave laser output at 1535 nm from a cleaved 11-cm-long fiber. The fiber lasers are end pumped by multimode semiconductor laser diodes at 976 nm.
