Photorealism Using Software Simulation

Abstract

Photorealism is the science of creating computer generated graphical images from accurate computer modeled scenes, complete with spectral information, surface and material interaction, and light sources. The standard methods used in creating these images are using either ray tracing or radiosity methods. In this paper we will focus only on ray tracing methods to create photorealistic images. It will also be demonstrated how to deal with modeling scenes, spectral information, surface and material interaction, defining light sources and then processing the scene for lit appearance, scene illumination, volumetric lighting effects.
