Abstract

Uniform refractive index modulation causes sidelobes in diffraction spectra of volume Bragg gratings (VBGs). Sequential recording two slightly different interference patterns and cutting specimen at zeros of moire envelope produces apodized VBGs with suppressed sidelobes.
