Abstract

Experiments in hybrid vanadium dioxide-silicon photonic structures, complemented by finite-difference, time-domain simulations, show how the ultrafast insulator-to-metal transition in VO2 can be leveraged in nanoscale photonic structures to open new routes to low-loss, high-speed all-optical modulators.
