On-Chip Backward Inter-modal Brillouin Scattering

Abstract

We present the first demonstration of backward stimulated Brillouin scattering between distinct guided optical spatial modes in an integrated multi-modal photonic circuit. This unique opto-acoustic process enables new opportunities for on-chip Brillouin signal processing technology.
