Nucleation of Optical Vortices in the Wake of a Blockage in Free-Space Propagating Light

Abstract

We report experiments observing optical vortex nucleation in light flowing past a blockage in free space. This nucleation in a fully linear system is analogous to fluid flow around different blockages.
