PbO-based ultrafast fiber lasers

Abstract

A novel two-dimensional material, lead oxide (PbO) nanosheets was firstly proposed to have promising applications in ultrafast optics. PbOs were synthesized using a liquid exfoliation method that combined with probe sonication and bath sonication. PbO was deposited into the fiber patchcord and used as saturable absorber for mode locking and Q-switching in a fiber laser. Mode locking pulse was as short as 850 fs. Q-switching pulse is repetition tunable from 20kHz–50kHz. This finding suggests that PbO could be further developed as an all-optical device in the applications of next generation high-speed optical communication.
