Brightness theorems for nanophotonics

Abstract

We present nanophotonic “brightness theorems”, a set of power-concentration bounds that generalize their ray-optical counterparts, and motivate the concept of “wave étendue”. We show their ramifications in the design of metasurfaces and waveguide combiners.
