Abstract
Nearly 50 years ago Sarachik and Schappert suggested an intensity gauge based on wavelength shifts due to relativistic Thomson scattering. We present the first preliminary experimental results exploiting these shifts to make a direct measurement of peak intensities above 1018 W/cm2.
