Electro–Absorption Waveguide Modulator Performance

Abstract

A holistic analysis for waveguide-based electro-absorption modulators demonstrates that all the materials with direct interband absorption show comparable performance from the fundamental point of view. Only reducing the effective waveguide area can lead to reduced switching energy and wide bandwidth.
