Brillouin cooling in a linear waveguide through dispersive symmetry breaking

Abstract

Here, we experimentally demonstrate Brillouin cooling in a linear waveguide for the first time. Leveraging the dispersive symmetry breaking of inter-modal Brillouin scattering, we achieve Brillouin cooling without an optical cavity or discrete acoustic modes.
