Silicon Grating Coupler for Mode Order Conversion

Abstract

A vertical silicon grating coupler that converts the propagation mode order at the waveguide-fiber interface was fabricated and characterized. Far-field intensity patterns are presented for different device configurations and the coupling efficiency is reported.
