Abstract
In the first part of the presentation, main applications of the GaN-based laser diodes are shown. These include lighting, RGB projectors, optical communication, Quantum Technologies, welding of copper and gold. In the second part, the main material issues will be discussed, in particular, presence of point- and extended-defects and how they influence the properties of laser diodes.
