Abstract

This work is concerned with the fundamental limit in the frequency stability of the output pulse train of a passively mode-locked laser. The results here are valid for passively mode-locked lasers in general, although we have specifically in mind the ultrahigh frequency monolithic mode-looked QW laser,1 which has attracted considerable attention of late.2–4
