High-power diffraction-limited operation of monolithically integrated active grating master oscillator power amplifiers

Abstract

High-power semiconductor lasers have demonstrated operation to output powers >100 W cw; however, these lasers are not suitable for many uses as a result of the multimode output properties of the laser arrays. As an alternative to coupled laser arrays, which have demonstrated single-longitudinal mode operation to only a few hundred milliwatts, we have proposed the fabrication of monolithically active grating integrated master oscillator power amplifiers (MAG-MOPA).1
