Dependence of the refractive power of Nd:YAG on the intracavity intensity

Abstract

In high-power operation, the varying lens of the active medium changes the beam quality and limits the output power in fundamental mode operation. To compensate for thermal lensing, the refractive power must be exactly known. This holds especially for unstable resonators, where a small misdetermination might result in the destruction of the output coupler.
