Abstract

With the development of powerful sob-picosecond lasers, intensities up to 1020 W cm−2 can now be generated with subjoule pulses, and a new region for laser-produced plasmas has become accessible. Plasmas generated by intense, short laser pulses are of particular interest for the development of novel x-ray sources.
