Abstract

An inertial confinement fusion (ICF) power plant will require a driver having specifications such as 10-MJ blue output in a properly shaped pulse, a 10-Hz repetition rate and an overall efficiency of 10%. Laser diode (LD)-pumped solid-state lasers have been proposed as a feasible candidate driver satisfying these requirements.1,2 We have recently developed a conceptual design technique of a LO-pumped solid state laser system having high peak power, high efficiency, good beam quality, and high repetition rate.3
