Abstract

In an ICF experiment, the target irradiation unifonnity is an important prospect in obtaining the highest implosion performance with a given laser energy. Irradiation nonunifonnity <l-2% (rms deviation) is required for the Gekko upgrade system. Several approaches to improving the target irradiation unilormity have been proposed by various institutes, such as random phase plate (RPP),1 induced spatial incoherence (ISI),2 smoothing by spectral dispersion (SSD),3 and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE).4
