Abstract

Under the NASA-sponsored LAWS (laser atmospheric wind sounder) Program, it is essential that the laser radar transmitter operate in single mode for wind measurements.1–3 Single-transverse-mode operation with unstable resonators can be obtained by proper design of cavity parameters. Single-longitudinal-mode operation can be achieved by cw injection and cavity matching. In this paper we report the results from our experimental investigation of the effects on mode behavior of a CO2 laser in various injection-seeding conditions.
