Abstract
We report a new all-solid-state source of picosecond pulses that is broadly tunable from the visible to the near infrared. A CW mode-locked optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on the crystal LiB3O5 and synchronously pumped by an all-solid-state laser has been constructed that can provide continuously tunable output from 650 to 2700 nm, with the possibility of four-colour operation over an extensive wavelength range from 670 to 2400 nm. We have recently reported the operation of a similar device using a mode-locked and Q-switched, diode-laser-pumped solid-state laser.1-2 The work described here is to our knowledge the first report of CW synchronously-pumped parametric oscillation in LiB3O5 and employs an all-solid-state laser pump.
