Abstract
Smart pixels can be defined as autonomous circuits or devices that perform logic, amplification, switching, or other nonlinear functions on a light signal. Pixel arrays are often optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEICs) with one or more optical inputs and outputs. Typically, the smart pixels are configured in 1-D or 2-D arrays for use in high density optical interconnection and computing architectures.
