Abstract

An ultralong distance transmission system using Er-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) has been intensively investigated. in an IM-DD system for both non- re tum-to-zero (NRZ) and soliton signals, an external modulator is essential to minimize the frequency chirp. An electroabsorption (EA) modulator is a promising candidate for this.1-4 This paper shows the total performance of an InGaAsP EA modulator for high-bit-rate EDFA systems.
