This paper investigates the dynamic characteristics of femtosecond pulses from a group velocity dispersion-compensated CPM ring dye laser. It is shown that the performances of pulses are not only dependent on the morror coating layers and the configuration of a CPM laser, but also on the concentration of an absorber (DODCI) and the group velocity dispersion and self-phase modulation of the laser, etc. Their relations are discussed in detail.
