Abstract

Titanium-doped sapphire has a huge gain band-pass in the near infrared extending over more than 450 run. Combined with the material's high energy-storage capacity and high saturation energy, this important property makes it a unique gain medium for the generation of tunable, high-energy ultrashort pulses.
