Abstract

There is recent interest in developing optically controlled optical switches; the mode-switching laser is one interesting example. Two overlapping semiconductor lasers, partially sharing a common gain region, are fabricated on a substrate. The carrier density in the overlapping region can be controlled by the optical power of the control laser.
