Abstract

The radiative lifetime TR of the Cr,Al:forsterite emission in the near-infrared M R is of interest for the calculation of the stimulated emission cross section cre from the fluorescence emission spectrum. In general τR = τf,/ η), where τf, and η are respectively the fluorescence decay time and the quantum efficiency. In terms of transition rates, 1/τf, = Wf = WR + WNR and η = WR/(WR + WNR), with WR = 1/τR and WNR representing the nonradiative process.
