Abstract

Prototype photonic switching1 and optical computing systems2 rely on spot array generation optics to produce the illumination necessary to transfer information between arrays of optical logic devices. In a typical system, a laser produces a monochromatic collimated beam which, when incident on a diffractive phase grating, generates a regular array of uniform intensity beams. Imaging optics are used to focus the beams onto the optical devices and thereby read the current logic state.
