Accurate frequency measurement system for 1.5-μm wavelength laser diodes

Abstract

Future optical systems (e.g., coherent optical communication systems with more than 1,000 channels frequency division multiplexing) require highly accurate optical-frequency measurement systems in the 1.5-μm wavelength region. However, the conventionally used wavelength-measurement methods are not accurate enough to meet this requirement. To solve this problem, we have proposed a novel optical-frequency measurement system with an accuracy as high as 1 × 10−9 as shown in Fig. 1(a).
